Mowani Mountain Camp

Mowani Mountain Lodge has a wonderful location, high on a rocky outcrop, commanding views of the surrounding plains and mountains within the heart of Twyfelfontein, southern Damaraland.

Mowani Mountain Camp consists of 12 tents and a luxury suite beautifully designed and decorated with a terrific location.

The tents are split between those that offer a “view” of the surrounding landscape and “standard” tents which are hidden within the rock boulders that characterise the camp.  Each tent is very comfortable with double or twin beds, an en suite bathroom and a wooden deck area with chairs to relax.

The suite is really impressive with a superb location within the camp. Built high upon the rocks, the views are spectacular. Along with the bedroom, indoor and “open-air” bathroom, there is a private lounge which is equipped with a music centre and satellite television, complimented by private dining and bar facilities. Very relaxing and romantic.

Hidden within the camp is the pool deck, lodged between the boulders where you can soak up the sun or rest in the shade whilst enjoying a refreshing drink and continue to admire the breathtaking views. The camp also has a great “sundowner” location each evening high on top of the rocks.

Activities available at Mowani include guided nature drives in search of the elusive desert elephant, and hiking through magnificent scenery. The Camp is also an excellent base to explore the historical site of Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein is a rare example where Bushmen engravings and paintings occur at the same site. This wonderful archealogical site offers more than 2,500 engravings as well as various paintings, and is probably the finest example of rock engravings in Southern Africa.

We really like Mowani but would recommend paying the little extra for one of the tents with a view.  One of the real joys of staying here is the peace and tranquility of just sitting on the veranda of your tent passing time watching the panorama change with the light.  Service and food are very good.
