Important: These requirements apply to holders of a full British Citizen passport travelling for tourism. Other British passport types may have different requirements. Always check the relevant official government portal before travelling.

Visa and entry requirements are correct for British Citizen passport holders at the time of writing. Requirements can change, so we recommend checking the latest FCDO advice before travelling.

PASSPORT

All Africa countries will require your passport to be valid at least 6 months before arrival.  Many countries require you to have at least two adjacent pages clear of stamps on your visa pages.

FLIGHTS

We are happy to help and advise with your international flights, although not necessarily book them. Our preferred partners have expert knowledge in the Africa market as well as very competitive pricing. Please contact us for details.

For travel from the UK to east Africa, our preferred airlines are British Airways and Kenya Airways since internal flight infrastructure is usually set up to work with their timetable.

Please let us know your international flight details as soon as possible including full passenger names. It is important you check the airline’s terms and conditions – these often change for travel to Africa.

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

We will book domestic flights as part of your trip as required. Please note, on occasion, flights to the more remote regions will be in smaller planes which will have luggage limitations. Please check before departure.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

Provided with your confirmation details will be all emergency contact numbers of lodges, domestic airlines and our ground operators (as applicable). Whilst we do our best to be available 24/7, we recommend you contact those more local to you in the event of an emergency.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We do not permit travel with Safari & Beach without adequate travel insurance. Please consult us for advice in this area. We will happily provide agents who can help, if required.

Kenya now has a mandatory inbound travel insurance requirement whereby travellers must possess a policy from their country of origin, with a cumulative benefit limit of no less than USD50,000.  (This will be required before any Visa application is processed).

Zanzibar also requires all foreign visitors to purchase the government’s Mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance, administered by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) for US$44 per person. It is not a replacement for normal travel insurance. It is an additional compulsory policy, even if travellers already have comprehensive UK travel insurance.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

It is important you check with the UK Foreign and Commonweath Office any information relating to your proposed destination before you travel (www.fco.gov.uk/travel). We are kept up to date with any travel advisories but we recommend you double check to ensure your trip is as trouble-free as possible.

HEALTH

Africa is generally a safe and rewarding destination, but health requirements and recommendations vary considerably between countries and even between different regions of the same country.  We strongly recommend arranging a consultation with your GP, pharmacist or specialist travel health clinic at least 4–6 weeks before travelling.  They can advise you on vaccinations, malaria prevention and any other precautions appropriate to your individual circumstances and itinerary. Even if you are travelling soon, it is still worth seeking professional advice.  Please note, however, some countries may require proof of yellow fever vaccination, particularly if you are arriving from a country where yellow fever occurs.

TIPPING

Tipping locally for good performance is usually expected and is not included in the price of your trip. We recommend you consult your lodge manager for advice on staff tipping. Safari guides average about US$20 per day. We are happy to discuss appropriate tipping with you prior to travel.

WHAT TO PACK/WEAR

We always recommend to pack as little as possible. Heavy luggage can be cumbersome and add stress to your stress free holiday. Most domestic airlines have a maximum weight policy of 15 kg per person – please check. For safari we recommend clothing to be toned down/neutral colours and light weight but multi layers according to time of year. Footwear should be sturdy and made of natural or breathable fibres. Outer layers for cooler evenings may be required. We recommend a daypack for water and photographic equipment. Sun hats and UV protect sunglasses are advisable according to personal preference. We recommend high factor sun screen. Lodges often spray insect repellent but you may like to bring some personal supplies.

Please check FCO for any travel updates / travel advisory.
