Medjumbe Island

Medjumbe Private Island lies at the northernmost reach of Quirimbas Archipelago some 130kms north of Pemba.

Medjumbe is a tiny pristine island, just 1 km in long and 350 metres wide, it has a stunning beach with white powdery sand and perfect turquise blue water.

A member of the Rani resort chain which includes Matemo Island and Indigo Bay, this is their most exclusive and top end property.

The 13 palm-thatched beach chalets on Medjumbe are just steps away from the beach. Nestling on the white sands, they offer privacy and seclusion, yet are situated conveniently close to the guest areas.

Each chalet is furnished in crisp blues and whites, offering a full en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, and is refreshingly air-conditioned. Ceiling fans, mosquito nets, hair dryer, mini bar, an electronic safe, satellite TV and tea/coffee making facilities are included in every chalet. Outside each chalet, a private plunge pool and a hammock makes this is a greta sport to chill out and relax.

The central dining area, decks and patio sit above the beach and designed as “barefoot luxury”. Within the thatched building there is also an informal lounge / library area upstairs and a bar which overlooks the swimming pool and is a great place to relax, enjoy a drink and gaze out over the ocean.

There is a full range of watersport activities including scuba-diving, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, water-skiing and windsurfing. If the activity requires use of a motor then its an extra cost otherwise it’s free.

Access to Medjumbe is via a scenic light aircraft from Pemba Airport – 45 minutes in duration.

The beauty of the island cannot be criticised but the feedback we have had from visitors is that the quality / style of the accommodation and service does not stack up when charging such high prices.
