Guludo Lodge

Guludo Lodge is located on a long, unspoilt and palm-fringed mainland beach within the Quirimbas National Park, northern Mozambique.

The lodge has been designed with a mix of traditional and contemporary styles and with the highest of environmental and social integrity.

Each of the 10 Bandas has been carefully designed so you can watch the sun spectacularly rise over neighbouring Rolas Island from the comfort of your own bedroom.

The design is quite unique with a large high roof that opens upwards and outwards, covering a spacious Swahili-inspired veranda which includes a hammock and traditional beach sun loungers. The design concept takes advantage of the gentle sea breezes, ensuring the banda stays cool, day and night. The sleeping area is on a raised platform boasting a lavish king-sized bed under an extravagant, hand-crafted mosquito net.

Behind the bedroom is a large open air bathroom with twin sinks and mirrors, ingeniously carved out of the banda wall. A huge shower completes a zen like space from where you can relax, unwind and shower under the canopy of bright stars. Positioned to the side of the private bathroom and up a small staircase is one the best views in the lodge… the view from the loo!  Stable door style shutters allow you to decide on just how much privacy you really need whilst you enjoy the view!

The natural surroundings of Guludo are beautiful with much to discover both under water and on land.  The lodge offers a full range of exciting and interesting activities including scuba-diving, boat trips to the various islands, whale watching, dhow sailing and educational village trips.

This is a remote area and to get here involves flying into Pemba town, the provincial capital and then either driving overland through the Quirimbas National Park (3 hours) or a short flight and boat transfer via Matemo island (45 mins).

Amy and Neal Carter-Jones who set up and manage everything, deserve a special mention for their charitable work.  Guludo lodge has created an innovative and sustainable model to relieve poverty within the area and protect the environment.  They have also set up an associated UK-registered charity, the “Nema Foundation”.
