Fundu Lagoon

Fundu Lagoon is a beautifully remote luxury lodge on the wonderful island of Pemba. It’s a truly amazing place.

Fundu Lagoon is iconic barefoot luxury and one of our favourite places in Africa.  We’re not the only ones that think so; Fundu continuously receives awards recognising it as the best beach lodge in Africa.

The lodge is privately owned and has been developed with a love for the natural environment that surrounds it.

The main restaurant is set under a tropical thatch canopy open to the sky and sea with views out across the water. The lodge has three great bars – the jetty bar which is idyllic for daytime and sunset, the pool bar raised on the hillside with panoramic views and a cooling breeze and the main bar for pre and post dinner drinks.

All the spacious tented accommodation offer views out towards the sea. The Hillside and Beachfront room have a large double (or twin) bed, mosquito nets, ceiling and standing fans and a complimentary minibar.

At the back of tents are the ensuite bathrooms with hardwood panelling, hot, fresh water showers, toilet and basin.  Each tent also has its own indoor and outdoor seating areas to soak in the soothing atmosphere and intoxicating location.

The suite rooms are located close to the beach with a chill out area at the front, private plunge pool and sundeck.

The superior suites are like having a small private villa with two private terraces, a chill out deck, a large private plunge pool, an open plan lounge and private access to the beach. Very special and romantic.

Apart from being a perfect place to just kick back and relax, Fundu has some wonderful activity options: amazing scuba diving – Misali Island is a world heritage site where you can snorkel straight off the beach over amazing coral; mangrove canoe trips straight from the lodge beach; sundown drinks on a dhow; or take a trip to the nearby historic ruins or Ngezi forest.

Fundu has a wonderful Fusion Spa offering a full range of relaxing and enhancing treatments. The spa is located in a peaceful area of the tropical gardens high up on the hillside which adds to the feeling of peace and calm.
