Desert Homestead

Desert Homestead is found in a wide grassy valley sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. Simple but stylish, this is an excellent lower cost option when exploring this desert region.

Desert Homestead offers 20 thatched, en suite chalets, all attractively decorated in pale linens and dark wood furniture.  Each unit has its own veranda under a latte canopy with views extending to the mountains.

Each chalet has large single or double beds and ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet.  All guest amenities (soaps, shampoo, body lotion etc.) are environmetally friendly, whilst all electricity is charged by wind and solar power stored during the daytime.

The living areas of the main building are all open plan with the most prominent feature being a well sheltered veranda where you can have a leisurely breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Inside, you will find a comfortable lounge with ethnic, African decoration and leather sofas.  Satellite TV is available in a separate room and internet facilities are available in the adjacent curio shop. The bar is attended by a friendly, well educated and chatty barman who was great company on our last visit.

The swimming pool in front of the main building is great for a refreshing dip and also a good place to just relax and slow down after travelling.

Desert Homestead is well know for its wonderful horse-riding excursions – the sunrise and sunset rides are particularly special.  Other activities include guided Sossusvlei dune excursions, scenic flights, hot-air ballooning and quad biking.

Great value with an easy laid-back atmosphere.
