Basecamp Maasai Mara

Basecamp Masai Mara is a wonderful new addition to our portfolio of Masai Mara tented camps.  The camp itself is located just outside of the Masai Mara main reserve, within tropical forest on the bank of a private stretch of the Talek River with footbridge access to the reserve.

Game drives here are within the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve and you will head out early morning and in the late afternoon for exploration with the camp’s knowledgeable guides.

The main areas of camp are focused towards the river, with airy and spacious dining tent and a riverside fire pit for post dinner drinks and chat.  Everything is well designed here and you can see the care and attention to detail of the team.

Each of the 17 tented bedrooms are located on the banks of the Talek River with views over the Masi Mara.  The bedrooms are very well designed and authentic safari tents, with everything you need, comfortable beds, great bathrooms with safari showers, bio-toilets and lovely private balconies. For families with teenage children, there is a two bedroom Family Tent.  The birdlife here is wonderful and monkeys are frequent visitors all around camp.

This eco camp strives to have a positive impact on its environment and its local community and the friendly team  will proudly show you the Nature Forest they have reestablished, or talk to you about the birdlife that are resident here.  The staff are local Masai and it is also possible to visit the local village and Basecamp’s Masai Beading Centre, where they are creating income and preserving the talent in the local community.  The infectious enthusiasm of the staff and the obvious positive impact of the camp will make your experience even more rewarding.
