Ilkeliani Camp

Nestled in a river glade in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the area is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River.

Ilkeliani camp consists of only 12 tents each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day.  The tented rooms are slightly raised to provide great views of the river below and plains beyond.

The tents are well kitted out with proper beds, flushing loo and showers.  Outside your tent you can sit on your terrace to drink your early morning coffee witnessing Africa rising to the day or lie on your lounger for an afternoon’s relaxation.

The Ilkeliani experience is one enjoyed entirely under canvas, and a very personal affair.  The camp accommodates a maximum of 36 guests at any one time, with the camp priding itself on personal attention and care.  

All meals are prepared by the camps chefs, offering hearty breakfasts, alfresco lunches and candle light dinners in the Mess Tent. Picnic breakfast/ Lunches are prepared if you prefer to stay out and explore the reserve all day long. A camp fire is lit from 6 pm onwards and the safari experience is shared with fellow guests while enjoying a “tusker”/drinks. Bitings are served with sundowners.

Your day will be planned by your driver-guide, who is in the best position to know where the animals are that day, including where the last crossings were made, whether there are new resident lions in the area or nomad lions passing through. Guides are employed from local Masai and thus work in the area they both know and love.

This is a great little camp well located close to the Talek Gate but also the Talek river – creating great spectacle from your own front door.  A good value option in the main reserve.
