Giraffe: a manner of speaking

16 May 2017 | Nick Jenkins | Safari and Beach News

The dumb giraffe.  Giraffe  have a voicebox but, due to their extraordinary long necks, it is thought the airflow make it difficult to make a sound.  Just as well they have such beautifully long eyelashes and kissable lips.

Experience the Giraffe up close and personal at Giraffe Manor on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.  It is a stunning place to stay, as shown in BBC2’s Amazing Hotels (Life Beyond the Lobby).  Stay for a night or two before your safari in the Masai Mara, Lewa or Ambesoli, on your way to the beach or a last night of indulgence before heading home.   The hotel takes you back to times of old, with memories of Karen Blixen and Out of Africa.

By staying at Giraffe Manor you will also be helping protect the tallest creature on earth through their links with Giraffe conservation.  Recent figures released suggest giraffe population has dropped 40% in the last 30 years.  We need to put our necks out and conserve these extraordinary beings. Whilst going on safari you can do exactly that or contribute directly through the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.
