Rhino Plains Camp

Rhino Walking Safari’s Plains Camp is a small safari camp owned by Isibindi African Lodges (see Thonga Beach Lodge and Isibindi Zulu Lodge) whom have two delightful camps within the world-renown Kruger.

Rhino Plains Camp is a specialist walking camp located in it’s own 12000 ha concession within the Kruger National Park. Here you stay in comfortable authentic luxury tented camps and participate in daily walking trails from camp in search of the big game.

With a maximum of only 8 people (no children under 12) guests are assured of personal attention and a quality game viewing experience in a pristine wilderness environment.

There are 4 luxury Explorer styled tents with each offering en-suite (hot running water) and all the comforts of home. The tents are built in an Acacia / Knobthorn thicket and overlook the Timbitene Plain and Waterhole.   You will sleep in proper beds pristine linens.  A generator and back up battery provide powered overhead fans and 24 hour lighting.

There is a communal lounge and dining area with an outdoor fire pit where you can sit and listen to the animal sounds at night with a warming nightcap following your evening meal.

A typical day’s safari will include an early morning wake up call followed by a bush walk of 3 -4 hours, depending on individual fitness, with 2 armed rangers and trackers. You will return to camp as it gets hotter in the morning where you can relax in the shade, have lunch and then in the afternoon, head out once more for a short afternoon guided walk.

Two nights stays at this camp is the minimum and ideal amount of time to stay in this camp. This is primarily a walking safari camp amd whilst you’re not climbing any steep hills, a reasonable level of fitness is required due to the heat.  Nothing makes you feel as close to nature when on a walking safari, and this is the ideal time where you can learn about tracking big game and surviving in the bush when listening to the guides teach you about the plants and trees. The bush is unpredictable and therefore each walk is a different experience.

For those who seek to get away from the noise of the Landrover engine and wish to get closer to mother nature, then little gets you as close and is as exciting as going on a walking safari.

When on a walking safari, you may not get as close to the big game and you may not see as much different big game, therefore, this kind of experience and stay is best done when combined with a stay at sister camp, Rhino Post Safari Lodge where you do go out on game drives and have more chances to get closer to and see The Big Five.
