Planet Baobab is a lower cost lodge optionย for customers who would like to experience a few days in and around the salts pans but don’t have the budget for the luxury camp options.
Set amongst Baobab trees, with an average ageย for each tree ofย 4000 years and beyond, Planet Baobab has been a well known watering hole for overland travellers and locals for yearsย and now offersย comfortable overnightย accommodation.
The lodgeย is made up of eight traditionally styled Bakalanga huts made of brick clad walls and thatched roofs. All of the huts have been colourfully painted with local designs, areย relaxed and spacious withย double or twin beds and an ensuite bathroom.
The main area of the lodge is a very funky dining and bar area, dominated by a large curved bar lit by two chandeliers made from local beer bottles. The walls are covered with a fine collection of local images and posters which add colour and character. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly and the whole atmosphere is very personal and appealing.
Activities from Planet Baobab includeย guided walks, overnight fly-campingย and quad bike trips into the bush and the Pans with expert Guides discovering the geological origins of what was once the world’s largest ever super lake.
Whilst on the pans you can follow the palm trail created by elephant droppings as these ancient creatures trekked across the arid waste when the super lake dried up. You can also pick up, (and replace!), thousand year old flint spear heads left by the Stone Age hunters who were the regionโs first inhabitants.
Experience the world of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency: Learn the African handshake from the Batswana in the cattle posts and villages nearby and enjoy a cuppa of Mma Ramotseโs famous red bush tea with the grande dames of Gweta.
A really cool lower cost lodge option offering a unique experience which otherwise might be too expensive.

We had a brilliant time thanks and it is a shock to the system being back in the cold and at work!! Lagoon Camp was excellent, a great recommendation – we saw a pack of wild dogs on 2 occasions – not a kill, but they were hunting a herd of wildebeest and it was quite a sighting.
