Kalamu Bush Camp

Situated in the Luamfwa Concession in the southern sector of the South Luangwa National Park, Kalamu Bush Camp takes its name from the adjacent Chankalamu River, a seasonal tributary of the Luangwa.

Kalamu Bush Camp nestles under giant fig, mahogany and African ebony trees on a bend in the Luangwa River overlooking a wide sandy bed which holds large vocal pods of hippo and crocodiles.

This tented ‘bush camp’ consists of five Meru-style en-suite tents, each one with a different outlook on the Luangwa River. Each room has two twin beds with large walk-in mosquito nets and wall-to-wall sisal matting. High quality linen, rosewood furniture, cane armchairs and leather pouffes add to the scene of understated luxury.

The central areas of the camp – the plunge pool and deck and shaded bar and dining area – maximise the sweeping river views. A deck built into a fallen fig tree provides an unusual lookout point, with the river flowing past on either side.

Activities at Kalamu Bush Camp focus on the Luangwa River with both game drives and walks exploring its banks, fringing woodland and open scrub. The wildlife in this area is less tame and harder to find than in the central or northern areas of the park however you are likely to have the whole place to yourself due to the pristine and remote location.

Kalamu Bush Camp is very comfortable “classic” camp in beautiful relaxing surroundings where you can enjoy spending time within the camp as well as out in the surroundign bush environment.

The camp owners are very much involved in regenerating the wildlife in this area and working closely with the local communities to improve their lifestyle.
