Tafika Campย is a small,ย rustic and comfortableย campย that sits on the banks of the Luangwa River in the far north of South Luangwa National Park.
With just six chalets, madeย from localย reed and thatch, this is an intimate camp with aย unpretentious atmopshere. Each room is spacious with twin or double beds, using quality linen underย walk-in mosquito nets. The furnishings made from local wood andย colourful fabricsย combineย perfectly to provided a very comfortable yetย genuine bushcamp style. Bathroom facilities are en-suite with sparkling rainbows in the delightful outdoor showers!
One of the chalets is designed for honeymooners which is slightly larger withย a huge bed and two showers for “simultaneous”ย showering! Whilst another has two bedrooms and a shared bathroom designed with privacy in mind for a small family or group.
The main bar and dining area has comfortable chairs and a large circular dining tableย whilstย meals are a relaxed affair and often taken outside with everyone eating together.
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Tafika is very much down to excellent hosting of John and Carol Coppinger,ย the owners and founders of Remote Africa safaris, who live here with their family. The camp alsoย has some of the most experienced and long serving guides within the region which guarantees a high level of knowledge and expertise.
The campย offers an excellent range of activities which include day and night drives in open vehicles (only two rows of seats), walking safaris, mountain bike trails and microlight flights. In addition the nearby Mkasanga Village welcomes guests interested in their culture and way of life.
If you want to venture further, then Tafika and its Chikoko Trail camps (Treecamp and Crocdile Camp) combine well with their more distant sister-camp, Mwaleshi Bushcamp, in North Luangwa National Park.

We had an amazing family holiday (2 kids aged 10) and the service and recommendations from S&B were fantastic. Local Masai Wanderings guide (Clement) was brilliant, knowledgeable and friendly and a real joy to travel with. Everything went very smoothly which was a testament to the organisation by S&B. Many thanks to Nick and the team, we will be back!
When you book a holiday like this you know it’s going to be early starts and early nights, and on the go Inbetween. It is the most rewarding experience, and the mix of luxury and tented accommodation makes you appreciate both, the consistent is the level of service from all staff, and their inherent friendliness was an added bonus.
I am just back from Tanzania and wanted to thank you very much for a fantastic itinerary. I loved all the accommodation choices made, all the connecting flights worked well and the guide was superb. I had a great time and let me know if you want to get some more feedback on any of the properties suggested by you and also Pongwe Beach which excellent.
We had the BEST time! I have been struggling to put into words how amazing our honeymoon actually was. By the time we got to Selous Riverside Safari Camp it was after lunch so weโd missed the afternoon trip but we went on the river safari late afternoon which was brilliant, could only be discribed as breathtaking for our first few sightings.
