Mfuwe Lodge

Mfuwe Lodge is situated in the heart of South Luangwa National Park in the busiest and most prolific game viewing area. The Lodge overlooks one of the picturesque oxbow lagoons created by the meandering Luangwa River.

Mfuwe Lodge is larger and more solid than most of the other camps within the Luangwa Valley offering luxurious accommodation in a reassuring and established environment.

Accommodation is provided in 18 open-plan chalets, each with a large private deck overlooking one of the lagoons. The rooms are furnished with a large double bed encased in a walk-in mosquito net and cooled with a ceiling fan. The chalets thatched roofs have been designed to guarantee maximum ventilation, even though all rooms on the lagoon are dramatically sheltered by huge ebony trees.

Each room has a private bar, refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, mosquito nets, ensuite facilities with double vanities, separate toilets and a sunken bath with integral shower. The bathing corner can be completely opened to offer guests an open-air bathing experience

The open plan central lodge facility incorporates reception, lounge, dining and bar areas, under a thatch roof supported by palm poles and dominated by two impressive chimneys at opposite ends. This cool and airy central meeting place is the heart of the lodge. It opens onto a broad timber deck that cantilevers dramatically over the main lagoon.

The deck area in front of the lounge accommodates the swimming pool which also overlooks the main lagoon. There is also a unique library which has its own timber deck area and is entirely dedicated to nature conservation related issues, African culture, tradition and history.

Day and night time safaris with experienced and knowledgeable guides are provided daily as well as walking safaris to view or track animals on foot with armed scout as protection.

The lodge has also been made famous by its “resident” elephant who enjoy walking through reception much to the joy and excitment of the staff and guests.

Mfuwe Lodge is operated by the Bushcamp Company who operate six intimate and exclusive bushcamps in the more remote southern sector of the Park. It combines well with these or other small camps further north whilst also being conveniently located for Mfuwe airport.
