With Valentine’s day looming, where to propose might be an important consideration. There is no doubt being in Africa not only invigorates the senses but it also gives the heart strings a good pull. If you are looking to propose, or feel you might be vulnerable, there are plenty of magical spots ideal for a bended knee. Some of our favourites include:
Ngorongoro Crater: standing on the edge of this vast volcanic caldera can blow your mind. The views 600m down and 20km across are simply awesome. The scenery is spectacularly beautiful with lush green vegetation dropping down to the plains housing large quantity of game. Ask your guide to prepare you a romantic picnic breakfast or lunch and this could be your moment.
Trips including the Ngorongoro Crater as part of your itinerary tend to be Tanzanian Northern Parks safaris which can include Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Serengeti as well as a hop over to Zanzibar for some beach relaxation.
Mnemba Island: snorkelling in the bright turquoise waters above the reef off Mnemba Island really is quite spectacular. The vast array of fish and sea life and the colours they bring really is eye candy itself. Charter yourself a dhow with all the necessaries on board and you may not be able to help yourself. Return to your boutique beach lodge and celebrate with a private candlelit beach dinner on the beautiful white sands that are so unique to Zanzibar.
Trips including Mnemba Island as part of your itinerary are holidays in Zanzibar. There is a vast choice of large resort styles through to our more favourite boutique style hotels for some barefoot luxury right on the beach.
Kilimanjaro: amplify your exhilaration at being at the highest point in Africa by betrothing to your loved one. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a spectacular achievement but it is perfectly possible for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. It’s a great opportunity to spend time together as you witness the landscape change under feet from bush to desert to volcanic rubble to ice and snow. Look up and you are at the highest point in Africa. Only you. Have a double celebration when you get back to your lodge and perhaps continue with a safari and or hop over to the beach.
There are several options for Kilimanjaro climbs. You can join a group, create you own group or have private climb for just the two of you. You will then need to decide your preferred route and how long you want to spend on the mountain (the longer you spend, the greater the chance of success).
