KENYA SAFARI AND BEACH IDEAS
Kenya is home to the Masai Mara, Amboseli and Samburu National Parks, as well as the stunning lakes in the Great Rift Valley, offering spectacular game drives and rich, varied scenery.
Starting in Nairobi, fly to Amboseli and experience the wide open plains packed with elephants and gazelles.
Head on to the Masai Mara and immerse yourself in a different landscape, where you’ll be trying to spot lions, cheetah and leopard in the diverse terrain.
For a more off-the-beaten-track safari, spend some time in the Northern camps of Kenya. Ol Pejeta sits on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river, within a 100,000 acre wildlife sanctuary right on the equator. Take a trip to the gorilla sanctuary for a unique twist on a classic safari.
Kenya’s beaches boast the soft, white sand you expect from their Indian Ocean coastline. Diani and Msembweni beaches are quieter than Mombasa but no less stunning.

TANZANIA SAFARI AND BEACH IDEAS
Tanzania is, in our opinion, one of the finest safari destinations in the world.
Safari tours take place in the Northern Circuit, covering the Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks, as well as the South and West Parks, including the expansive Selous Game Reserve.
Combine the wildlife-rich Serengeti, perhaps during the wildebeest migration, with the lush landscape of the Ngorongoro Crater, in an action-packed Northern Circuit safari.
Tanzania safaris are often paired with beaches in the Zanzibar archipelago. Zanzibar, the Spice Island, itself is a beautiful jewel, while nearby Pemba and Mafia islands are spectacular tropical idylls.

GORILLA TREKKING SAFARI IDEAS
If you’re looking for a unique safari and beach experience, consider a gorilla trekking safari.
Take off into the forests of Uganda, visiting Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Jungle. Explore in safari vehicles and on foot, as you follow gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitat.
Alternatively, head to Rwanda’s Virunga Mountains and Volcanoes National Park for the unbeatable experience of tracking down the native mountain gorillas. You might even spot the endangered Golden Monkeys, if you’re lucky.
SOUTH AFRICA SAFARI AND BEACH IDEAS
South Africa truly is a “world in one country”, as it is sometimes known.
South Africa has the most National Parks and Private Game Reserves of anywhere in the rest of Africa, making it an ideal location for a safari.
As well as the traditional ‘Big 5’ – Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino – there is a huge variety of game to see living in a hugely diverse eco-systems. You can even do a self-drive safari here, so it’s perfect if you prefer a more independent travel experience.
After visiting Cape Town, where you can’t miss Tabletop Mountain, your trip could combine Sabi Sands – the most likely place to spot a leopard – with a relaxing beach break in Mauritius to round out your trip.
BIG 5 SAFARI IDEAS
The Big 5 are one of the key priorities of many safari enthusiasts – spotting Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino is a checklist item for many people.
Tanzania offers you the opportunity to spot all five of them, plus the rarer tree-climbing lions in Ngorongoro. Take in at least a couple of different parks to boost your chances and get to see more of the stunning landscapes.
Kenya boasts all five, too, though to increase your chances of seeing all of them, you might want to make sure your itinerary includes a variety of camps as well as parks. The Masai Mara has plenty of big cats, with the elusive leopard amongst its inhabitants.
South Africa also offers opportunities to see all five of the big ones. Head to Kruger National Park for the best chance, thanks to its animal-packed plains.
