Kapani Lodge is quite a large safari lodge in comparison to many of the other smaller camps within the area. This is an ideal place from which to start or end a safari within the Luangwa Valley due to its reassuring comfort and proximity to Mfuwe airport.
The lodge consists of eight standard suites each with its own lounge, large beds with overhead fans inside walk-in mosquito nets and ensuite bathroom.
There are also two “Lagoon” houses which are more spacious with private views and are ideal for honeymooners or those looking for a little more space and seclusion.
A thatched building in the centre of the lodge houses the lounge and library surrounded by open lawns. It is pleasantly cool in the hot weather and warm and cozy in the cooler months with an open fire.
The bar and dining area is set on a deck overlooking the Kapani Lagoon and adjacent grazing lawns. According to the season, dining is al fresco with meals taken either on the terrace or the spacious deck.
There is also a small gift shop offering books, clothes and local crafts as well as a secluded swimming pool at the far end of camp.
Activities are based around day & night game drives into the centre of the Park, after crossing the main Mfuwe bridge, where the volume of game is high but also the busiest area of the park for visitors.
Owned and operated by Norman Carr Safaris the camp combines well with its sister-camps, Nsola, Mchenja, Kakuli and Luwi – where as you would expect the guiding is of the highest quality.

We had an amazing family holiday (2 kids aged 10) and the service and recommendations from S&B were fantastic. Local Masai Wanderings guide (Clement) was brilliant, knowledgeable and friendly and a real joy to travel with. Everything went very smoothly which was a testament to the organisation by S&B. Many thanks to Nick and the team, we will be back!
When you book a holiday like this you know it’s going to be early starts and early nights, and on the go Inbetween. It is the most rewarding experience, and the mix of luxury and tented accommodation makes you appreciate both, the consistent is the level of service from all staff, and their inherent friendliness was an added bonus.
I am just back from Tanzania and wanted to thank you very much for a fantastic itinerary. I loved all the accommodation choices made, all the connecting flights worked well and the guide was superb. I had a great time and let me know if you want to get some more feedback on any of the properties suggested by you and also Pongwe Beach which excellent.
We had the BEST time! I have been struggling to put into words how amazing our honeymoon actually was. By the time we got to Selous Riverside Safari Camp it was after lunch so we’d missed the afternoon trip but we went on the river safari late afternoon which was brilliant, could only be discribed as breathtaking for our first few sightings.
