The Serena hotel is located high on the saddle of a tree-clad ridge in the busy Seronera area of the central Serengeti.
Each of the 66 rooms is accommodated in a stone-built, traditionally-thatched ‘Rondavel’, featuring stone bathrooms, wildwood balconies, rope-lashed staircases, leopard-print drapes and intricately carved furniture.
The main public area is made up of a two-tier dining room supported by massive papyrus-topped pillars and embellished with ‘Makonde’ carvings suggesting the audience chamber of a tribal king! All of this looks down over the swimming pool area and Serengeti landscape beyond.
Like all the Serena hotels this is a large and well managed hotel with good service and food but it’s not going to provide you with anything intimate or a genuine safari experience. Would not be on the top of our “wish list”.
